Dr Mawbey is a Chartered Consultant Clinical Neuropsychologist and Clinical Director of Psychologia Ltd. She holds a First Class Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, a First Class Masters degree in Clinical and Cognitive Neuropsychology and Neuroscience, a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology, a Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology with Distinction, and is currently undertaking the Qualification in Clinical Neuropsychology with the British Psychological Society.

Dr Mawbey has worked across acute, inpatient and outpatient settings, across a number of renowned institutions following training in paediatric neuropsychology at Great Ormond Street Hospital and in adult neuropsychology at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery, Queen Square. Dr Mawbey's area of specialism lies within the neuropsychological assessment and community-based rehabilitation of clients with acquired brain injuries, neurological and neurodegenerative conditions.

Dr Mawbey's primary clinical focus is in the assessment and treatment of clients with acquired brain injuries and conditions, primarily traumatic brain injury. She has worked for a number of years in the private sector, working with solicitors, insurers, case managements and multidisciplinary teams, providing community-based neuropsychological assessment, rehabilitation and talking therapy for clients who have experienced catastrophic injury and who are engaged in personal injury and clinical negligence claims. Dr Mawbey is recognised as a hands-on clinician, who integrates rehabilitation into functional day-to-day activities with clients and she enjoys and prioritises multidisciplinary working in this context.

With over fifteen years of experience in working with clients with acquired brain injuries and conditions, Dr Mawbey is regularly approached to consult on complex case presentations, often where there is a comorbid or dual diagnosis, incuding clients who have experienced a TBI and a secondary diagnosis such as stroke, FND, seizures or dementia.  She uses clinical interview, collection of functional evidence and gold standard cognitive and psychometric tests to comprehensively assess clients. She incorporates assessment findings into clear and informative education for clients and their support systems, to develop a shared understanding of how an injury or condition is impacting a client from a neuropsychological perspective, which further benefits adaptation of talking therapies and tailored planning of rehabilitation interventions.

In her clinical work Dr Mawbey adheres to best practice guidelines by delivering bespoke, goal-focused rehabilitation interventions and NICE recommended adapted talking therapies. She is well regarded for her compassionate approach to working with clients, their families and professionals, and advocating for empowering clients to be at the centre of their care, rehabilitation and decision-making. She is particularly well regarded for her work in supporting clients, families and professionals through the process of assessment under the Mental Capacity Act 2005, completing Supported Decision Making interventions and completing assessments, including for the Court of Protection.

Through her clinical work, Dr Mawbey has developed a particular area of expertise in the management of concussion-related conditions and acts as Clinical Lead for the Psychologia Mild Head Injury Service, delivering bespoke, patient-centred concussion management protocols alongside multidisciplinary professionals. Her additional work with clients with neurological and neurodegenerative conditions is also a specialist interest and she works as Clinical Lead for the Psychologia Neurological Conditions Service.

Dr Mawbey enjoys teaching and holds honorary and substantive Associate Lecturer roles, teaching on Neuropsychology and Neurorehabilitation and Dysexecutive Syndrome to doctoral Trainee Clinical Psychologists at the University of Surrey, Head Injury in Sports at St George's Medical School and Sports Neuropsychology: Concussion and mTBI at the Salomans Institute for Applied Psychology at Canterbury Christ Church University on the Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Neuropsychology.
